For years, Summer’s Eve has profited from shame-based marketing that treats vaginas and vulvas as needing constant cleaning, deodorizing, and odor control. The company promotes products as “fresh,” “clean,” and “gentle” while selling intimate care products containing chemicals linked to reproductive harm and other serious health concerns.

Now, Summer’s Eve is aggressively marketing boric acid products for routine and “everyday” intimate care despite evidence linking boric acid to reproductive harm.

About

Vaginas are self-cleaning, and yet we are bombarded with marketing telling us we’re not clean and healthy unless we artificially smell like perfume. Summer’s Eve continues to profit from harmful stigma by selling heavily scented products that may contain undisclosed toxic fragrance chemicals.
With your help, Weaving Voices for Health & Justice has already pushed Summer’s Eve to remove harmful ingredients and discontinue several products. But the company still sells products containing chemicals of concern and continues using harmful marketing that puts profits before people’s health.
People deserve products that are safe, transparent, and free from harmful chemicals. Join us in demanding accountability from Summer’s Eve and Prestige Consumer Healthcare.

What We’re Demanding

We are calling on Summer’s Eve and its parent company, Prestige Consumer Healthcare, to
    • Eliminate boric acid from the Ultimate Odor Protection line.
    • Stop marketing harmful products as safe for everyday intimate care.
    • Eliminate chemicals of concern from all Summer’s Eve products or discontinue them where reformulation is not possible.

Take Action Today

Boric acid is banned for use in cosmetics in the European Union and will be prohibited in certain intimate care products in California beginning in 2027. It’s time for Summer’s Eve to do the right thing.

Email Prestige Consumer Healthcare CEO Ron Lombardi and José Luis Rosado, Sr. Vice President, Quality and Regulatory Affairs, and urge them to remove boric acid and other toxic chemicals from Summer’s Eve products and fully disclose all ingredients on product labels.

Spread the Word

  • Help educate your community and take action with us by sharing campaign materials and resources.
  • Talk to friends and family about harmful chemicals in intimate care products.
  • Help challenge stigma-based marketing around vaginal health.
  • Encourage others to take action and contact Prestige Consumer Healthcare (the makers of Summer’s Eve).

Know Before You Shop

Summer’s Eve products continue to contain chemicals linked to reproductive harm, endocrine disruption, and environmental toxicity. The company also continues to push harmful messaging that suggests your vagina needs to smell like “Island Splash” or other heavily fragranced scents to be healthy or clean. It doesn’t.

If you are considering using these products, here’s what you should know before you shop:

    • Your vagina does not need a floral or tropical scent to be healthy. Odor removal is not necessary for a healthy vagina. Vaginas have a natural scent, and there is nothing wrong with that.
    • The vagina is self-cleaning. Intimate care products are not required for “freshness” or cleanliness.
    • Labels claiming products are “gynecologist tested” do not automatically mean they are safe.
